Northwest Missouri State University is hosting a series of recitals this spring featuring performances by faculty members in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, as well as guest musicians. The recitals, which are free and open to the public, will take place at the Charles Johnson Theater in the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building starting at 7 p.m.
Dr. Rachel Day, an assistant professor of music at Northwest, highlighted the significance of faculty recitals, stating, "Faculty recitals are opportunities for colleagues to collaborate toward a common goal, often exploring repertoire not regularly heard in undergraduate education." She added, "Faculty recitals also serve as demonstrations for students of what is possible—artistry, recital programming, collaboration."
Dr. Day will be showcasing her talents as a mezzo-soprano, accompanied by Dr. Jiwon Choi on piano and Dr. Joseph Tomasso on the English horn. Dr. Day has an impressive background in vocal performance, having earned multiple degrees and performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall.
Dr. William Sutton, who will be performing on euphonium and tuba, will be joined by guest pianist Dr. Ling Lo. Dr. Sutton's extensive experience includes performances with various orchestras and brass bands, demonstrating his skill and versatility as a musician.
Dr. Jiwon Choi will also be performing on piano alongside Dr. Tomasso on oboe and guest cellist Ho Anthony Ahn. Ahn, a chamber coaching artist for Kansas City Young Chamber Musicians, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the recital.
Lastly, Kyle Jones will be showcasing his talent on saxophone, accompanied by Dr. Choi on piano. Jones has a rich background as a soloist and chamber musician, having performed with a variety of ensembles and premiered works by renowned composers.
The diverse lineup of faculty and guest performers promises an evening of exceptional music and collaboration. Attendees can look forward to a range of musical styles and talents on display at the upcoming recitals at Northwest Missouri State University.
